Amber Alert Awareness Day
Today is Amber Alert Awareness Day. The Amber Alert System is named after 9-year-old Amber Hagerman who was kidnapped and murdered in 1996. You can read about her story here and how the Amber Alert System was borne out of her kidnapping and murder.
The Amber Alert System has been implemented nationwide and has aided to date in the recovery of 241 abducted children.
The Amber Alert System has expanded to include capabilities of alerting people utilizing computers, cell phones, pagers and other communication devices. You can download the free code to place either the Amber Alert Ticker on your website or blog or you can download the free program to install an alert to your computer desktop. Amber Alert Tickers are also available for jurisdictions in Canada from the same links above.
There is also the Amber Alert Portal where you can sign up to receive E-mail, pager or text message notifications of Amber Alerts in many states across the United States.
You can visit the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children to read their press release regarding Amber Alert Awareness Day.
