Destiny Norton who had been missing from her backyard since a week ago Sunday night has been discovered deceased. Her body was discovered in the basement of a neighbor’s home.

The neighbor, Craig Roger Gregerson, 20, who lived alone in the home, was arrested on suspicion of Destiny’s murder according to Salt Lake City Police Chief Chris Burbank.

Police claim that they had searched all homes in the area over the past week and when they were at this home interviewing Gregerson, the tracking dogs did not pick up Destiny’s scent. Gregerson’s home is 150 feet behind the Norton’s home.

The outcome of this story is the same as that of Jessica Lunsford from Homosassa, FL last year. She disappeared from her home in the middle of the night from her bedroom. Her body was discovered weeks later 150 feet from her home, buried beneath the steps of a mobile home. The same thing happened with the tracking dogs; they never picked up Jessica’s scent. Police had interviewed the occupants of that mobile home and gone inside not once, but twice. Those occupants were smoking crack in that home but the police did not smell the crack I guess because the occupants of that home were not arrested for that crime.
I don’t know, Destiny’s parents and family members are not pleased with the police right now. They claim they were assured by law enforcement that homes in the immediate area were searched several times. Perhaps the police need to rely less on the scent the tracking dogs are looking for and more on their own ability to smell fear in the person they are interviewing at the time. Certainly, Gregerson was not at ease when he was questioned by police.
