Who Murdered Lazarus Jones?
Family and friends speak of 13-year-old Lazarus Jones as a child who is:
- a good student
- Enjoys playing golf
- Dreams of living in a place with no violence
- Has big dreams of making enough money to take care of his family and friends
- Two weeks ago he took the exam to get into Lane Tech High School
The last time his mother saw him he was going out to ‘hang’ with friends just like any other 13-year-old boy would do. I can’t imagine his mother’s sorrow and pain when she received the phone call that her son had been injured.
“They found him in the fetal positon,” Lazarus’ mother said…” [Source]
Apparently Lazarus Jones was chased down by gang members near the intersection of Troy and Lawrence. While he was fleeing from them he slipped on the snow-covered street. While he was laying there these gang-members reportedly struck him in the head -with most likely a hammer. He died from the injuries soon after being transported to a hospital.
There were witnesses to the attack otherwise police would not have the information of what caused his injuries and what happened just prior to Lazarus sustaining those injuries. The problem is no one is talking. No one is naming names of the thugs who beat this young man with so much promise and took his life.
According to his mother:
“…”I have no clue who it was, but I know that he was not in a gang and he was not by himself so whoever did this, I know his peers that he was with, they had to run — they’re little kids,” said Pamela Jones, Lazarus’ mother..” [Source]
It would appear from the above quote that the peers who were with Lazarus most likely can identify the assailants but are afraid to name names. I guess I can understand that. What these children most likely do not realize is that they are not safe whether they talk or not. If they name the assailants they will most likely be targeted for retaliation for ’sqealing’. If they do not name the assailants they will most likely remain targets because they are potential witnesses to the crime. Either way these kids are not safe to even walk to school until their murderers of their friend are taken off the streets.
There is currently a $10,000 reward offered for information leading to the arrest of the person who murdered Lazarus and left him in the snow to die. I don’t know, maybe the money offered will be enough of an incentive to quell the fear of exposing the scum who took the life of an innocent 13-year-old boy with so much promise.
If you have information about the beating death of Lazarus Jones you are asked to call the police. I don’t see a number for the local police department in Chicago but I would imagine if you know enough about this case to make the call then you most likely can easily find the number to call the local police.
