02/24/2004: CA Endangered Missing: Mireya Zapata
The last time anyone saw 10-year-old Mireya Zapata was Saturday February 23 at around 9:30 a.m. in her family’s San Francisco, CA home.
According to her little brother, Mireya got dressed and waved goodbye to him, telling him she would see him tomorrow.
It is now Sunday evening and Mireya has failed to return.
Her mother fears Mireya has run off with an older male. Police say they are following leads but are not commenting on certain aspects of the investigation at this time.1

Mireya Zapata is a 10-year-old Hispanic female with black hair and brown eyes. She stands 5’3″ tall and weighs 95 lbs. When Mireya was last seen she was wearing a black jacket with gold “South Park” lettering on the back, black jeans and sneakers with a heart print.2
Update: February 24, 2004 9:25 p.m. PST:
Mireya returned home tonight banging on her parent’s door and crying.
Her father says at this point they do not know where she has been, why she left or if she has been hurt. Police will still be investigating the case and will provide more information at a later date.3
Update: February 25, 2004 1:30 a.m. PST:
According to Mireya’s father, Elvis Zapata, his daughter said she was in Daly City with a friend but she really isn’t willing to give further information. It does not appear she was physically harmed but her father says she appears to be in shock. She was not taken to the hospital to be examined. A detective came by the home and spoke with Mireya on Sunday evening for a short while and will be back on Monday to conduct another interview.4
