The California Amber Alert issued this morning for 9-year-old Zane Newton has been removed from the NCMEC Amber Alert page.
Zane was playing outside his friend’s home when a car approached. An unknown male exited the vehicle and reportedly shot Zane. When he fell to the ground the suspect picked the boy up, put him in the vehicle and drove away. Although the boy who witnessed the abduction stated Zane had been shot police did not find any blood or shell casings at the scene.
I wondered about this abduction and I thought maybe this was a case of two kids playing with a gun and one of them getting hurt.

03/19/08: Another Amber Alert Ends in Tragedy
So just days ago the California Amber Alert issued for 2-year-old Andrew Bailey ended in tragedy when the boy’s body was located in a wooded area. His father, 50-year-old Charles Bailey has been charged with his murder. According to court documents Bailey is accused of using a screwdriver as the murder weapon. Prior to that final act of violence, he is also charged with attacking his girlfriend with an ax before fleeing with the child. Fortunately his girlfriend survived the attack.1
Another Amber Alert was issued weeks prior to the Andrew Bailey alert.
It is alleged during the evening of March 4, 2008 Eddie Harrington had a heated argument with the mother of his children. It is not clear from news accounts why the mother left the home without the children but when she returned at about 1:30 a.m. on March 5th her children were gone and so was Eddie. Eddie Harrington had a violent history and a serious mental health history of one prior suicide attempt; he left behind a note indicating he might do the unthinkable - commit a murder-suicide with his children.2
A Levis Call and Amber Alert were issued and eventually the FBI followed that up with issuing an arrest warrant for Eddie Harrington citing Unlawful Flight to Avoid Prosecution as well as charges of Child Cruelty.
The FBI reported today that the bodies of; Eddie Harrington, Aliyah Battle, age 1 year; Agena Battle, age 1 year; and Cedric Harrington, age 3 years; were found dead at Old Brim Road, near Chatsworth Road in Columbus. According to authorities it is a rural and wooded area about 90 miles southwest of Atlanta.
