Original Post

Levi's Call (Amber Alert) Issued for: Georgia Statewide

Victim: Isaiah Ezekiel Tan

Isaiah is a three-year-old white male with brown hair and brown eyes. He is 3'2" - 4 feet tall and weighs approximately 36lbs. When last seen Isaiah was wearing navy blue t-shirt and cartoon underwear.

Suspect: Delores Miller, child's grandmother

Delores Miller is a 46-year-old white female with brown hair and brown eyes. She is 5'6" tall and weighs 150lbs. A felony warrant for Kidnapping was issued for Delores on October 8, 2008.

Suspect Vehicle

1999 black Cadillac Seville with Georgia tag 616HWS

Circumstances:

image of abducted child, Isaiah Tan and Delores Miller, abductorIt is believed that Delores Miller, Isaiah's grandmother abducted the child from a home in Midville, Georgia during the early morning hours of Wednesday morning. I have read articles stating two different times that Isaiah was last seen. One article states he was last seen at 10:30p.m. on Tuesday night and the other article mentions him last being seen at 3a.m. Wednesday.

Police believe Delores Miller may be heading to Tennessee with the child and that he is in extreme danger. They did not give a reason for the belief that he is in extreme danger.

If you see Isaiah, Delores, or the suspect vehicle or have any other information, you are asked to call 9-1-1 or the Burke County Sheriff's Office at (706) 554-2133.

Updates

4:40p.m. PST

The Levi's Call has been canceled. Isaiah was located safe and Delores Miller is in custody.

October 9, 2008

I was contacted by a family member who told me that Isaiah was never in danger when taken by Delores Miller. According to the source, the boys father gave his permission to Delores to remove Isaiah from the home. The father had concerns that Isaiah's mother was possibly unfit to care for the boy.

Although Delores was taken into custody and charged for kidnapping, the family member told me today that Delores was released from custody today and all charges have been dropped.

I am glad Isaiah was located safe and unharmed. I wonder after hearing from the family member if Georgia authorities jumped the gun in activating the Levi's Call in this situation. Perhaps they should have investigated more thoroughly.

Since Isaiah's mother made the call to police about the abduction, I hope authorities further investigate to see if she made false statements causing the police to over-react to the situation.

  1. a) The child was rescued from his mother by Delores.
Admitted, Delores used poor judgement in not contacting the authorities instead of removing the child. However, Delores had the permission of the child's father to remove the child. The father also has custody of the child. The child was NEVER in danger!! Delores' act was an attempt to protect the grandchild she loves so deeply.

    b) the father was present and gave Delores permission to take the child due to the mother's inability to function as a mother.

Ralph, I am going to assume that you are related to Delores in some way. Unfortunately, when it comes to Amber Alerts reported in the media, the family background information is usually not reported. I don't really know how the information would be helpful in recovery of the child. I guess my question to you would be if the father has custody or the mother and father have shared custody, why didn't he get Isaiah out of the dangerous situation?
Who called police to report the abduction?

  2. T,

    1) You're assumption is correct.
    2) The father should have handled things differently and Delores should have done the same.
    3) Isaiah's mother called the police.

    Ralph,

Thanks for answering the questions. Did Delores get out of jail and what charges is she facing?

We could continue to have these little Q&A's in the comment section or if you would like you can write a post about the other side of what happened including the background of what led up to the problem. I would be willing to post it as a guest blogger entry. Let me know if you are interested.

  3. Thank you for asking about Delores. Yes, she was released today after a painfully slow coordination between the jurisdictions. All charges have been dropped.

Thanks for the offer of 'guest blogger' status but I think I'll pass. (Unrelated; I can't make the jump from web log to blog!)
