image of endangered missing child Isuara RodriguezThere isn’t anything in the news about this little girl’s disappearance. The missing poster issued by The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children does not shed much more light on the circumstances surrounding her disappearance.

Bare in mind, the child is 2-years-old. Here is what the missing poster has to say about Isuara Rodriguez’ disappearance:

Isuara was last seen on July 10, 2009. She may still be in the local area or she may travel to Mexico.1

The NCMEC usually reserves the above type narrative for runaway teens not toddlers. I am trying to picture this toddler just ‘hanging out’ in the local area or traveling on her own to Mexico. It would be helpful to mention if the girl was taken by a relative or non-custodial parent or a stranger or just simply wandered off.

Isuara Rodriguez was last seen on July 10, 2009. She is a two-year-old Hispanic female with blonde hair and hazel eyes. She is 3’0″ tall and weighs 30lbs.

Should you have information about this case please call the Louisburg Police Department (Kansas) at 1-913-837-2300.

Updates

July 12, 2009

The NCMEC issued a corrected missing poster for Isuara. Her name has been updated to Isuara Rios-Rodriguez. Apparently she is still a free-spirited 2-year-old wandering about by herself.

July 13, 2009: 12 Noon PST

image of alleged abductor Veronica Rios RodriguezThe NCMEC has issued another update to the original missing poster for Isaura Rios-Rodriguez. The case type has been changed from Endangered Missing to Family Abduction. It is alleged that Isaura’s mother, Verionica Rios Rodriguez, abducted her daughter. A felony warrant for kidnapping was issued today for Rodriguez. According to the missing poster the Rodriguez may have fled with her daughter to Minnesota or Mexico. If you have information about this case you are asked to call the Louisburg Police Department (Kansas) at 1-913-837-2300.

August 3, 2009

The missing poster for Isuara Rios-Rodriguez is no longer available on the NCMEC site. This could be for a number of reasons, i.e., updates to the poster, the case has been resolved and a confirmation e-mail has not been sent by the Poster Partner program.

Suspects: Unknown

Circumstances

image of missing persons Liliana Iboa & Karen CervantesLiliana Iboa and her daughter, Karen Cervantes, were reported missing to Avondale, Arizona police on Friday by Liliana’s twenty-six-year-old boyfriend (some news stories refer to him as Iboa’s husband) Benito Cervantes Mena. According to Mena he received a phone call indicating the two had been kidnapped for ransom. Apparently he was out of town when he received the phone call and when he returned home the house showed signs of a robbery with pillow cushions from the couch thrown about and other things disturbed. Mena told police he did not report the alleged kidnapping earlier because he was afraid they would be harmed if he called police.

When I first read this story I got that familiar feeling in the pit of my stomach that makes me tend to not believe the story of how the person or persons went missing. However, police at this time do believe Mena’s account and do not consider him a suspect or person of interest.

The time line of events according to Liliana’s mother:

August 30, 2003

Then 15-year-old Liliana is reported missing by her parents from their Springfield, Oregon home. They believe Liliana is being held against her will by then twenty-one-year-old Benito Cervantes Mena

Approximately one month later Liliana calls Springfield, Oregon Police

During that phone call she tells police she is safe and had run away from home to be with Mena. Liliana later came back home and the family moved to New Mexico.

March 22, 2005

Liliana gives birth to Karen Cervantes. It is not clear if Liliana is living with her parents at this point or with Mena.

2007

Liliana and Mena break up and she moves back in with her parents in New Mexico.

November 2, 2008

According to Liliana’s mother, Mena shows up at their home and Liliana leaves with him.

November 6, 2008

Liliana calls her mother but her mother did not tell reporters the content of that phone call

November 7, 2008

Mena calls police to report the kidnapping of his daughter and girlfriend/wife. Police have verified that even though Mena refers to Liliana as his wife, they have never been legally married.

The parents do not like Mena because they say he has a ‘bad reputation’. I hope this is just an instance of Liliana deciding she made a mistake going back with Mena and she is hiding out somewhere until she can get back to New Mexico.

Updates: 11/11/08

November 11, 2008

Liliana and Karen were located unharmed a little before midnight Monday night. The captors released them in North Phoenix. A passerby helped Liliana contact police. No further information was released about where the two had been held captive for the past four days.

I am glad I was wrong about this story and all turned out well.

Updates

June 26, 2009: 6:30 p.m. PST

The Birmingham News is reporting the car in the Amber Alert was spotted this afternoon at a house on 48th Street in the Central Park area of the city. Police are currently conducting a foot search for the child and teen.3

June 28, 2008: 12:15 a.m. PST

The search for Treshon and Antoinetta in the Central Park area failed to find them. Shortly after 10p.m. police told reporters they were moving the search to Fairfield, but did not elaborate.4

June 28, 2008: 11:45 a.m. PST

About 7 p.m. last night police received a tip about the location of the subject vehicle of the Amber Alert. The vehicle was located in the vicinity of Tuscaloosa Avenue and then proceeded to follow it to a residence on Terrace R in Ensley.

When the vehicle was stopped neither Antoinetta Smith or Treshon Williams were inside. Instead a woman with two children were inside the vehicle. She is being questioned about her involvement in the disappearance.

It is believed Antoinetta was at the Terrace R location and fled on foot with Treshon, however, a four hour foot search of the area failed to find them.

According to Lt. Irby:

“By all indications, the 1-year-old is okay,” Irby said during an impromptu news conference Friday night on Terrace R. “At this time we hope Antoinette is looking at this story and that she calls the police department and/or the mother of Treshon. We need to get him back to his mom as quickly as possible because (Smith) is not equipped to take care of a 1-year-old at this time.”5

June 28, 2008: 8:15 p.m. PST

The two mothers of the missing children held a news conference this afternoon pleading for their safe return.

It is also Antoinetta Smith’s 17th birthday today. Her mother pleaded with her to bring the baby home:

“Is this how you want to spend your birthday?” cried Nakia Smith, Antoinetta’s mother. “We is waiting on you! You need to come home with that baby!”6

The Smith and Williams families are related; Antoinetta is Treshon’s cousin. According to Antoinetta’s family they say she may be telling people that Treshon is her son. After the press conference the family members went around passing out fliers.

June 28, 2008: 11 p.m. PST

Treshon Williams has been located and reunited with his mother in Bessemer. Antoinetta Smith is in police custody.7

June 28, 2008: 2:30 a.m. PST

ABC3340.com cameras captured an emotional reunion with Treshon and his mother a little after midnight in Bessemer.

According to the report, Antoinetta Williams showed up at what is being called a housing community in Bessemer on Saturday morning. She claimed Treshon was her child and they were supposed to go to a birthday party later that day. Another person who lived in the housing community, Erica, recognized Antoinetta as a former classmate. When she heard the Amber Alert on the radio she called police to alert them that Antoinetta was there. Before police arrived Antoinetta got into a car with an unknown male and attempted to flee the scene. However, police were able to stop the vehicle and take Antoinetta into custody.8
