Yes, you read it right, a Virgin Island AMBER Alert. When I first saw the missing poster for this child with the letters “VI” for what I thought was the initials of the state of residence I thought it was an error. Certainly they must have meant “VA” for Virginia. Anyway, call me nationalistic in my thinking. But you can’t call me that either because much to my surprise the Virgin Islands are considered part of the United States. Of course that echoes in my brain somewhere – United States Virgin Islands. I guess I just think AMBER Alerts are for the fifty states that make up United States of America. Enough of my meandering.

According to a Virgin Islands news website called St. Croix Source, two-year-old Alayah Watley resides with her mother on the island. She was last seen on Saturday at the home of her father, Rolando Watley. According to the article, Alayah was in her father’s temporary custody, however he is currently “off island”.

image of Alayah Watley, missing childThe AMBER Alert issued by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children states that Alayah is the victim of a non-family abduction and is believed to be traveling in a car owned by her father but driven by Candice Hazel. The AMBER Alert goes on to state that if contact is made with Alayah or either Candice Hazel, Delicia Hazel, Tiffany Hazel, Kyle Hazel or Rolando Watley police should be called. It sounds as if Alayah has more than one abductor, including her father.

I like the way the reporter for the St. Croix paper put it in no uncertain terms what will happen to anyone not contacting law enforcement if they know anything about this abduction:

If you are with Watley or may know her whereabouts please contact Detective M. Myers at 712-6046 immediately. Anyone withholding information on the whereabouts of this missing child and does not contact police immediately will face criminal charges.

It is refreshing to see someone not be so politically correct when asking for help to find a missing child.

Victim: Alayah Watley

Alayah is a 2-year-old Black female with black hair and brown eyes. She is 1′5″ tall and weighs 30lbs. When last seen Alayah was wearing black pants, a red shirt, gold earrings and no shoes. Her hair is worn in braids and her ears are pierced. Alayah is in need of medical attention.

Suspect: Candice Hazel

There is no information about Candice Hazel except that she is a female.

Suspect Vehicle

White Compass with License Number CDH-815

Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact Detective M. Myers at 712-6046 or the Virgin Islands Police Department at 340-772-9111.

Updates

July 20, 2009: 9:30 p.m. PST

The AMBER Alert activated this afternoon for Alayah has been canceled. A relative contacted police this evening and said Alayah was with her. Police interviewed the relative and then returned Alayah to her mother. Detectives will contact the Attorney General to see what charges, if any, will be filed.

Circumstances:

Kameron was with his grandfather at around noon today at a grocery store in Fairfax, Virginia. Kameron was seen at the Shoppers Food Warehouse in the Landmark Shopping Center at the intersection of Route 236 and Beauregard Street.

Police are searching the area around the store with K-9 crews. The AMBER Alert states that Kameron is believed to be in danger.

I wonder why there was such a delay in activation of the AMBER Alert. The request for activation was not made until 20:00 hours. The AMBER Alert release states he has been missing since 10a.m. The news media states he has been missing since around noon.

Anyone having information about this case is asked to call Fairfax County Police Department, 703-691-2131

Updates

October 20, 2008

The Virginia AMBER Alert site is reporting that the AMBER Alert for Kameron Wells was canceled at 1:56a.m. today. The site does not indicate if this AMBER Alert ended successfully. I can’t find any media accounts of the AMBER Alert cancellation.

I did find one news account that stated Virginia State Police were classifying this case as a stranger abduction case. Kameron was seen on video outside of the store speaking to a woman who family members could not identify.

It has taken me a while to get back to the update on this story. I thought I had lost almost 3 years worth of blog posts because my blog crashed but with the help of my hosting company and just not giving up I was able to get it back up and running again. Oh, the hosting company had nothing to do with the blog crash.

image of alleged kidnappingKameron was allegedly kidnapped by a former stripper, Falah Octavia Nulgun Joe, 28, of Falls Church, who has had many run-ins with the law. She had just recently been released from jail after being incarcerated for failing to obtain court ordered mental health treatment. It appeared on the video that Kameron just walked up to the woman and she took him by the hand and walked away. He did not appear to be fearful or struggling

image of heroes Jennifer Edwards & Milton MooyaJoe did not have a car and took him to her destination by bus. The bus driver, Jennifer Edwards, remembered the two boarding the bus. About 1a.m. Joe showed up with her boyfriend at a friend’s home. She introduced Kameron as ‘her son’. Kameron promptly told the people the woman was not his mother. The friend had seen the AMBER Alert and mentioned it to Joe who took off running out the door her boyfriend running after her. Police were called and Joe was taken into custody. She is charged with a federal charge of kidnapping because she crossed state lines – from Virginia into Washington, DC.

Joe’s preliminary hearing was fraught with verbal outbursts from her which resulted in the judge ordering her out of the courtroom for a brief period of time.

From www.wjla.com:

Joe, a former stripper, had previously pleaded guilty to assault charges after trying to attack an ex-boyfriend during his 2003 sentencing. He had been convicted of killing someone at the D.C. club where she worked.

But when the Assistant U.S. Attorney raised the issue during a routine hearing Tuesday, Joe began to shout in court.

“I didn’t stab no one,” she yelled. “This is [b.s.] I don’t want to hear this.”

She also addressed the kidnapping charge, saying, “I didn’t kidnap nobody. That little boy was out in the cold by himself. His father left him out there.”

Marshals removed Joe from the courtroom. The judge ordered a recess. When Joe returned, she was silent.

It is still unclear why Falah Joe allegedly abducted the child. Police say there is no connection to the Wells family. Kameron’s mother says he is back to normal and she says she is proud that he spoke up for himself.

VA Missing: Molicia Julia Tumaline

without comments

Original Post

Amber Alert Issued for: There is currently no Amber Alert activated. However, Virginia State Police have authorized the Amber Alert activation in the event information comes to light that Molicia is a victim of an abduction.

Missing: Molicia Julia Tumaline

Molicia is a ten-year-old Black female with black hair and brown eyes. She is 5′2″ tall and weighs 140lbs. When last seen Molicia was wearing blue jeans, a green short-sleeve shirt and black tennis shoes. She was last seen on Monday evening at approximately 6:30p.m in the vicinity of the 2500 block of Marr Street in Roanoke City.

Suspect: None at the present time.

Suspect Vehicle: None at the present time.

Suspect Vehicle Description: None

Circumstances:

image of missing child, Molicia Julia TumalineThe girlfriend of Molicia’s father told authorities the last time she saw her she was walking away from their home in the direction of the playground in the 2500 block of Marr Street. She also says she always tells her that 7:30p.m. is the latest she can stay out. When Molicia failed to come back home she called police at 11:30p.m.

Also, something that was out of character for the child to do was she took a shower before she left and put her school clothes back on. Usually, according to the girlfriend, Molicia takes a shower and then puts her pajamas on. Both the friend of the family and the girlfriend of the father stated that Molicia left the apartment without saying anything. So I guess they were not the last people to see her walking towards the playground.

Ok, so she was walking towards the playground. Was she going there to play or was there some sort of function she was planning to attend or participate. She is only 10-years-old and they waited until almost midnight to notify police. I just don’t get that.

image of Molicia's motherThe mother was interviewed on camera and she believes either her daughter is somewhere and is aftraid to come home because she thinks she might be in trouble for being late, or someone has her and something has happened to her.

I am hoping the girl is somewhere and is afraid of getting into trouble for being late.

Police have sent out two ‘Missing Child Alerts’, the last one being city-wide and county-wide. Approximately fifty searchers on horseback are searching in the woods and they are also canvassing the neighborhood door-to-door with Molicia’s picture. Bloodhounds are also being used in the search. The bloodhounds did have some hits but they were at places the little girl frequents.

There has also been some information that Molicia was seen walking with a 14-years-old male.

If you have any information about Molicia’s whereabouts, please call 9-1-1. There is one 9-1-1 operator assigned only to Molicia’s case.

Updates

October 8, 2008

Police searched many different apartment complexes where Molicia is known to frequent without success. They also visited businesses in the area of her home to see if Molicia could be spotted on any survellance video, but that search also proved to be fruitless. Today they will focus on Molicia’s school; they will speak with her friends to see if they can be of help in finding the child.

Authorities will also search a walking trail near her home. However, today’s ground search is scaled back somewhat until further tips are received.

12 Noon PST

image of Molicia Tumaline after returning safeMolicia returned home this afternoon on her own. Her father says she does not want to say where she has been since Monday night. Police are questioning her to find out where she has been since Monday night. I am glad she is OK. Although, it appears from the video she was crying.

2:30p.m PST

Investigators have determined that Molicia ran away from home. They are still working to find out where she stayed for two days
